WORKOUTS THAT WORK FOR ME

THANKS TO MY JOB choices over the years (waitress, manager, daycare provider, wedding photographer), I have been able to keep active throughout the day, which kept me slim and trim. I don’t run around as I used to since I started writing, so it’s hard to stay in shape while working these days.

So, I have to make sure I don’t forget to stick some kind of exercise in my day, whether it be a full workout, or even at least getting up and walking around. Lately, I’ve wanted more out of my exercise. I found some new ways to find that motivation to workout.

Here are five creative exercise ideas that help keep me motivated to exercise and have fun at the same time:

Hiking

Hiking brings you out in nature, which is way better than the sweaty, stale air at the gym. When you hike, you get a great full-body workout that is low-impact and incredibly meditative.

Dance Fitness

One thing I hate is running. But, I like to get down and dirty on the dance floor. I found that there is such a thing as dance fitness class! Dance is an awesome cardiovascular workout. If you rather do it at home, just play your favorite tunes, and even get naked if you want-I won’t tell!

Adult Sports Leagues

One thing that I noticed when I work out is that it’s not always fun doing it alone. Our city offers different adult sports leagues to choose from. This allows me to not only get a great workout every week, but also feel like part of a team that keeps me accountable.

Yoga

Yoga helps you live in the present when most of us spend the majority of our time thinking about the past or the future with complaints, worry and regret. Yoga stems from the ability to unplug and focus on what’s going on in your body and in your life right now. Since yoga reduces stress and anxiety, it reduces the physical effects of stress on the body. This meditating exercise also lowers blood pressure and heart rate,

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

HIIT calls for a blast of major energy, but only for a short period of time. The results are tight and toned muscles and a fast metabolism that keeps burning long after you stop.
