A couple of years ago, a parent came to visit my daycare. We had an instant connection with her when I realized she was about natural living. I had just started my journey on it, so I hung on her every word while she talked about her recommendations.
Then she started talking about oils. I had dabbled in oils a bit, but I wasn’t impressed. I had heard about the “magic” oils have in healing, but I tried many brands, and many different kinds of oils, but my alignments didn’t go away like promised.
I told her about my experiences with the oils I tried, and she laughed and said that I wasn’t using “pure” oils.
“Pure oils?” I asked her, puzzled. I thought to myself, why wouldn’t companies that sell oils be required to have pure oils?
“Yep,” she answered, and smiled, “If your oils are not pure, they won’t be very effective. You could probably get away with using them to make cleaning products, but if it’s touching your skin, or you are inhaling it, you need high quality oils.”
She went on to tell me that she used Young Living oils. She explained that essential oils sold in most health food stores are aroma-grade or fragrance-grade oils and while they do smell good, these oils may have an essential oil base, but may contain additives, fillers, and synthetics to increase volume or fragrance.
She continued to tell me that Young Living’s essential oils contain all desired therapeutic compounds – nothing more, nothing less. They distill oils once at low temperatures and pressures, using chemical-free water and medical-grade stainless steel distillers.
Young Living is the only essential oil company in the world with a Seed to Seal process since they control every single aspect of production.
What I loved about her “sales pitch” on Young Living was the fact that she didn’t sell it, she just used them and loved them! This made me think she was being honest about their products, and just wanted to help out a fellow mom and her family.
She gave me some samples to try and I was anxious to see how they would work for me.
“Try diffusing lavender at night. Just to help you to relax and get into a deeper sleep easier,” she suggested, remembering me telling her about my insomnia.
I had heard plenty about lavender being great for promoting calm and relaxing environment, so with a sample of some Young Living lavender in hand, I got out a diffuser that I had gotten years ago, added some distilled water and two drops of the lavender.
As I turned the diffuser on and tucked myself into bed, I inhaled the lovely aroma of lavender that quickly filled my room, and then the next thing I knew it was morning. I had slept through the night, and I felt great!
I have been using essential oils ever since I actually learned about them. I still educate myself on their powerful properties (something I encourage everyone to do, especially if you are using them safely around/with children and animals). I feel like every day, I find a new way to use oils that makes my life a little better.
