Could the toast you ate for breakfast bring on your afternoon headache? Could the milk in your coffee cause joint pain and brain fog? Could your healthy tofu stir-fry slow your metabolism?
“Eliminate what harms. Replenish what heals.”
That’s what Tom Malterre – MS, CN and Alissa Segersten believe in. I happen to agree! I found out by personal experience with my arthritis problems that started early in my life. By changing out certain foods in addition to changing my diet in whole to better food, I am able to keep my achy joint pains at bay.
Maybe they say that arthritis can’t be cured, but I beg to differ. Arthritis isn’t the only reaction to food intolerance. There are many more problems that can arise from eating the wrong food for your body.
Other symptoms that food could be causing:
- Fatigue/Lethargy
- Foggy Thinking/Memory Issues/Lack of Focus
- Moodiness/Anxiety/Depression/Aggression/ Hyperactivity/Racing Thoughts
- Gas/Diarrhea/Constipation/Bloating/Cramping
- Reflux (GERD)
- Headaches/Migraines
- Sinus Congestion/Coughing/Asthma
- Rashes/Eczema/Psoriasis/Hives
- Acne
So, when I stumbled upon The Elimination Diet (there’s also a program as well), I was curious about it. When I did my own research to heal myself, I never followed a specific plan out of a book. I found that this book followed about the same rules as I did.
Let me tell you about their take on an elimination diet:
You may find that some foods may be irritating your body every time you eat them. When you follow an elimination diet, it’s like a simple experiment that helps you find which foods may be causing problems and which foods are not. When you follow their program, you can calm the inflammation and balance your body. Once the body is cleaned from the foods it can’t handle, you can test which foods are causing the problem by slowly adding one food at a time and see if the symptoms come back.
Other Benefits:
Other then eliminating your pain and other alignments, there are much more benefits to following this diet.
Lose weight:
For starters, you probably will lose weight from loss of water from inflammation. After your body becomes more efficient, then you will begin losing excess fat.
More energy:
Many people note that they simply have more energy and feel great. Most do not want to go back to their old eating habits because they feel so good.
I have tried many experiments and I found this method best for at least a start to learn how your body works. After becoming your own “nutritionist”, you can go on to figure out what type of food plan you want to go on. I think there is a vegan section as well if you want to go that route.
