DOESN’T IT SEEM that the older we get, the harder it is to fall asleep? Maybe it’s because we all seem to be busy, busy, busy with endless to-do lists that run through our minds when we try to relax and get some sleep before it all starts again the next day. 

 You might already know the soothing scent of lavender is a go-to oil to diffuse at bedtime. But did you know there are some more bedtime oil options you should try? 

11 BEST ESSENTIAL OILS FOR SLEEP

These oils have relaxing properties that work great diffused alone or in a blend (included are some optional blends).

  • Bergamot – blends well with cedarwood, lavender, patchouli, and ylang ylang
  • Cedarwood – blends well with bergamot, lavender, and sandalwood
  • Chamomile, Roman – blends well with cedarwood, clary sage, lavender, patchouli, and sweet marjoram
  • Clary sage – blends well with cedarwood, lavender, sandalwood, and ylang ylang
  • Frankincense – blends well with bergamot, cedarwood, clary sage, lavender, sandalwood, and ylang ylang
  • Lavender – blends well with clary sage, sandalwood, ylang ylang
  • Marjoram, sweet – blends well with bergamot, cedarwood, chamomile, clary sage, lavender and patchouli
  • Patchouli – blenhds well with bergamot, cedarwood, and sandalwood
  • Sandalwood – Blends well with  bergamot, vetiver, and ylang ylang,
  • Vetiver – blends well with bergamot, clary sage, frankincense, lavender, patchouli, sandalwood, and ylang ylang

Here are four of my favorite blends for diffusing for a better night’s sleep. 

4 ESSENTIAL OIL DIFFUSER BLENDS FOR SLEEP

Blend #1

2 drops of bergamot

1 drop of patchouli

3 drop lavender

Bergamot helps instill a deep sense of calm, and reduce anxiety. Patchouli and lavender balance your body for a restful night of sleep. 

Blend #2

4 drops bergamot

4 drops frankincense

2 drops vetiver

If looking for a rich, spicy scent, try this blend. Bergamot has a citrus scent, but it’s not as strong as orange. This makes it blend well with oils like vetiver and frankincense. Vetiver is known as the ‘oil of tranquility’ and it has an earthy, woody scent that’s calming. Remember, a little goes a long way with this blend.

Blend #3

4 drops of bergamot

4 drops of frankincense

2 drops of vetiver

This blend will help calm strong emotions you might be feeling before bed. Adding frankincense calms your brain and relieves tension.

Blend #4

4 drops clary sage

4 drops ylang ylang

4 drops sandalwood

Ylang ylang’s floral aroma enhances feelings of peace. Adding clary sage, which relaxes the body, will help balance emotions, and can help with dream recall as well.
