I thought I was doing good with the whole “Christmas shopping thing” this year. I thought I was just about done and that I would be able to relax at home these last couple of weeks while everyone else would be fighting the traffic and waiting in the long stressful lines at the stores.
But, when I laid out every thing I had hidden in our bedroom closet, I realized that I wasn’t as far along as I had thought. People that I had forgotten about suddenly came to my mind. The guilt of the kids not having as many presents under the tree as they are accustomed to crept up on me.
Wait, what about the aunts and uncles?
I quickly turned around and walked out of the room and shut the door, leaving the stress of the holidays in there. I decided it was baking time.
I have been wanting to make donuts for sometime now so, when I saw this Babycakes Mini Donut Maker a couple of weeks ago at Walmart, I had to try it out. Besides, it was cute and I can’t pass up on cute baking things.
I decided to try the sour cream donut recipe with cinnamon suger coating for my first tryout with this maker. It sounded light and simple to make on a Sunday morning.
When I opened the maker, I didn’t realize how “mini” they were, but that’s probably a good thing for me since I’m trying to lose a couple of pounds before all the holiday feasts approaching.
Yes, I do things backwards. Lose weight to gain weight after.
Go figure.
The donuts baked super fast, which also was a good thing, since it makes only four at a time and I had a lot of batter to go through and hungry kids waiting for their breakfast. After I popped the donuts out, we quickly coated them with melted butter and dipped them in the sugar mix.
The verdict?
Delish! They kind of have a pancake taste, but not enough to make it not taste like a donut. My son kept saying they tasted really good, and he’s my worse critic, so I was happy to hear that. A great size for the kids as well.
They looked adorable on the plate too…
States the photographer in me.
