As I read that title, I still can’t believe that I can say that these days. I used to HATE lemon anything! Lemonade? Uck! Lemon juice? Get it far, far away! Lemon water? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?
When I started studying nutrition, I realized how lemons are responsible for so much! The Reams Biological Ionization Theory (RBTI), states that the lemon is the ONLY food in the world that is anionic (an ion with a negative charge). That means that lemons are very useful to promote cell energy.
If that wasn’t enough, lemons do so much more too:
1. Lemons are rich in vitamin C and flavonoids that work against infections like the flu and colds.
2. Your liver loves lemons: Lemons are a wonderful stimulant to the liver and is a dissolvent of uric acid.
3. Lemons alkalizine the body: Lemons are acidic to begin with but they are alkaline-forming on body fluids helping to restore balance to the body’s pH.
4. Cleans your bowels: Lemons increase peristalsis in the bowels to help create a bowel movement, keeping waste regular. Add the juice of one lemon to warm water and drink first thing in the morning.
5. The citric acid in lemon juice helps to dissolve gallstones, calcium deposits, and kidney stones.
7. Neutralize free radicals: Vitamin C in lemons help to neutralize free radicals that cause aging and most types of disease.
8. The lemon peel contains the potent phytonutrient tangeretin, which has been proven to be effective for brain disorders like Parkinson’s disease.
9. Lemons destroy intestinal worms. Enough said on that.
10. Immune System Booster The citric acid, bioflavonoids, vitamin C, calcium, pectin and limonene do a great job of boosting your immune system and keeping infections at bay.
11. Fiber Consuming adequate fiber has been shown to reduce the risk of developing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and diverticulitis.
12. Lemons have powerful antibacterial properties; experiments have found the juice of lemons destroy the bacteria of malaria, cholera, diphtheria, typhoid and other deadly diseases.
13. Blood vessels are strengthened by the vitamin P (bioflavinoids) in lemon thus prevents internal hemorrhage. Also, making it useful in treating high blood pressure.
14. Lemons contain 22 anti-cancer compounds, including naturally occurring limonene; oil which slows or halts the growth of cancer tumors in animals and flavonol glycosides which stop cell division in cancer cells.
So, how could I not try to let that little yellow guy into my life? I started using lemon in my water daily, and I have to tell you, I started to like it. I even started to crave lemons! My favorite is to drink it first thing in the morning before eating breakfast. It helps to curve my appetite and gives me energy to get going during the day.
