Effective (Natural) Ways to Quickly Relieve Sinus Infections Quickly

natural cures for cold

Hello, Beauty!

I can’t  believe it….I got sick.

Last flu season, my immune system was at it’s best. While everyone was getting some nasty viruses, I managed to miss all of them. But, this season I got two viruses-in a row!

I knew my immune system was down from some stress and a little bit too much sugar. It got me good! My first round was with a bad sinus infection that lasted a couple days.

I tend to stay away from traditional western medicine and over the counter products. I like to use natural remedies that work way better and quicker anyway.

Here are 9 of my favorite natural remedies I use to make my immune system stronger to get better faster:

1. Spice

Spices are an awesome choice for when you are sick! Spices are highly antibacterial and antimicrobial, which destroy harmful bacteria that compromise your immune system.

My favorites are cayenne pepper and turmeric. Sprinkle on your rice or sweet potatoes-yum!

2. Green Juices

Greens are da bomb when it comes to fighting an illness. Juicing them in the morning is a great way to get them down. Nutrient-rich veggies like spinach, combined with anti-inflammatory ingredients like apples, lemon and turmeric can work together to up your immune response.

3. Green Tea

Green tea mixed with cinnamon and honey is the best cure for a sore throat. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body.  Honey has antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial properties. Add cinnamon to flavor your  cup of tea – which is also anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial as well.

4. Salt Water

When you get a  sinus infection, there’s a lot of phlegm that comes along with it. One trick that helps relieve the pressure that mucus causes is to gargle with salt water.

Why?

Salt water dehydrates mucus, allowing you to breathe more easily and breaks down the breeding ground for illness-causing pathogens.

5. Vitamin C Supplements

Vitamin C is a life savor for me when I’ve caught something. I up my dosage and eat a lot of broccoli and oranges. In fact, this last time I lived on oranges.

Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant that prevents damage from free radicals and wards off infections. If you would rather take in supplement form, look for a natural supplement source from your local health market.

6. Peppermint Essential Oil

I love, love, love peppermint oil! This versatile oil can be used  ts antibacterial and antiviral properties prevent and heal colds and flu, as peppermint soothes muscle aches, alleviates coughs, and opens nasal passageways. Its pain relieving properties have been proven to reduce the impact of tension headaches and migraines.

You can rub it on your chest for coughs. You can rub it on your temples for headache, and you can drink the tea to soothe a sore throat, too.

7. Magnesium Powder

It’s been proven that most of us are magnesium deficient. So, when you are sick, your magnesium level is probably even lower. Magnesium powder is an easy and effective way to combat headaches as well when you are feeling weak. You can mix the powder in with a glass of water (it’s tasteless).

8. Sleep

Sleep is my favorite cure for sickness. I was in bed for almost two days straight sleeping and resting. There are soooo many benefits to getting proper sleep!

Getting enough sleep:

  • Repairs and builds new cells overnight.
  • Boosts immune response.
  • Decreases levels inflammation.
  • Reduces levels of stress and blood pressure and the threat they pose to your immune system.
  • Rejuvenates the skin.

9. Water

Getting enough H2O is a mandatory step to any wellness recovery. Fluids aid a cold by flushing out toxins, maintaining energy levels.

xoxo Tess
