Last year, the Journal of Internal Medicine concluded that saturated fat does not cause heart disease. With all the research I’ve done on this already, I’ve already been preaching this to friends and family for quite some time now.
Use butter, not vegetable oil!
I’m sure you can still find vegetable oil and margarine in many kitchens out there. These are cheap oils are commercialized to make us think that we need it for good health.
Wrong!
We know now that saturated fat is pro inflammatory, causes liver damage and intestine damage, cancer and even violent behavior. Your body just isn’t designed to process this kind of foreign fat.
What are these vegetable oils do I need to avoid?
Soybean oil, canola oil, cottonseed oil are ones to stay far away from. You don’t need to cook and bake with them. In fact, you are hurting yourself if you do!
The Good Fats Step In
Instead of reaching for that bottle of vegetable oil, try unsaturated fatty oils such as avocado oil, coconut oil, or olive oil. These wonderful oils not only help cook your food, they have other benefits. Coconut oil will fix what vegetable oil ruins in your body with fatty acids that go straight to the liver from the digestive tract. Avocado oil has vitamin E and more protein then any other fruit. Extra virgin olive oil contains vitamins E, K, and A as well as polyphenols, squalene, oleocanthol, triterpenes and hundreds more micronutrients.
Butter is Good!
Throw out that margarine that’s slowly destroying your body with partially hydrogenated fatty acids. They lower good cholesterol, and raise blood levels leading to cardiovascular damage. They also raise C-reactive protein, an inflammatory and cellular dysfunction marker.
Does that scare you? It did me! I ws a BIG margarine user. Now I use real butter, or lard. Butter is a good source of fat soluble vitamins A, D, and E. Make sure your butter is free range and organic. My favorite brand is Kerrygold Pure Irish Butter. If you are allergic to dairy, you can use coconut butter or goat butter.
Now, as with everything, too much of a good thing can be bad. You still need to keep it in moderation!
