A Healthy Coffee Alternative – Yerba Mate

Have you heard of Yerba Mate?

Yerba Mate is a South American herbal beverage, brewed from the leaves and stems of a holly plant from the South American rain forest. It is known as the “Drink of the Gods” and consumed for optimum health. You can get it in teabag or brew it like coffee. yerba mate

Yerba Mate has many benefits:

  • Enhances Your Ability to Focus
  • Aids Digestion
  • Boost immunity
  • Cleanse and detoxify the blood
  • Restore youthful hair color
  • Slow aging process
  • Combat fatigue
  • Stimulate the mind
  • Control the appetite
  • Reduce effects of disease
  • Reduce stress
  • Eliminate insomnia
  • Contains Vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B3, B5
  • Minerals: calcium, manganese, iron, selenium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus
  • Fifteen amino acids.

Some people use Yerba Mate as a healthier alternative to coffee, since it has caffeine in it (only 1/3 as much as coffee),  but without the side effects coffee gives you like jittery energy, crashing, or nervousness.  This could be because of the amount of nutrients in Yerba Mate.

In my opinion, if you are looking for a healthier alternative to coffee, give Yerba Mate a try. Or, maybe alternate between the two. My favorite flavor is Chocolate Mate -it even tastes like coffee when you make it a latte by adding coconut milk and honey.

You can pick some up at your local health food store, or you can purchase  Yerba Mate online from Amazon.
