I SWITCHED TO NATURAL HAIR care years ago, and I’ve never wanted to go back! A big change for me was to include essential oils in my hair care arsenal. Essential oils can solve so many hair issues, from dandruff, stimulate hair growth or to even get stronger strands. And there are so many good essential oils for hair, no matter what your hair type is. Oily hair? Dry hair? Yep, there’s an oil for that.
Here are 5 ways to use essential oils for your hair care:
1. Nourish Dry Hair
Essential oils paired with a carrier oil applied to the hair help seal moisture into damaged hair. Lavender and geranium are my favorite especially for dry hair; they naturally condition hair and help balance the scalp’s oil production.
Essential oil conditioner:
Add 10 essential oils drops and 1 tablespoon of jojoba oil and add to an 8 ounce bottle of conditioner. Shake to combine.
2. Manage Oily Hair
If your hair gets oily like mine, you may need to ‘train’ it by shampooing less often. Use one of these oils that can cut cut through oil and help your scalp balance its oil production
Spritz the roots of your hair before or after styling.
3. Stimulate Hair Growth & Prevent Hair Loss
The fact that my hair was thinning out due to my stress level was how I started using natural hair remedies. I learned that essential oils help tremendously in stimulating the scalp and in cases of hair loss.
Hair Growth Serum:
Add 10 drops rosemary and 5 drops of peppermint to an 8-oz shampoo or conditioner bottle and shake to combine. Massage into your scalp each time you wash your hair.
4. GET RID OF DANDRUFF
Lemongrass is especially effective for dandruff, but these other oils work well also.
Add 20 drops of essential oil to shampoo or conditioner.
5. SOOTHE INFLAMMATION IN DRY, ITCHY SCALPS
If you just have itchy scalp, essential oils help soothe irritated skin. These oils are naturally anti-inflammatory to help relieve the symptoms and improve healing.
